Frequently Asked Questions

❓ What is UPPSC PCS and which posts does it cover?
UPPSC PCS (Provincial Civil Services) is Uttar Pradesh’s premier state civil services examination, similar to UPSC but at state level. It recruits officers for the most prestigious administrative posts in UP — Deputy Collector, Deputy SP, Block Development Officer, Sub-Registrar, Naib Tehsildar, and more. These are permanent gazetted government officer positions offering immense power, respect, and career security.
❓ How many vacancies are there in UPPSC PCS 2026?
Approximately 500 vacancies have been announced for UPPSC PCS 2026 under Advertisement No. A-1/E-1/2026. The exact post-wise distribution is in the official notification PDF. The number may increase or decrease based on departmental requirements before the final merit list.
❓ Can final-year graduation students apply?
No. Unlike UPSC, UPPSC PCS does not allow final-year students to apply. Candidates must have their Bachelor’s Degree in hand by the last date of application (27 July 2026). Candidates still appearing for qualifying examination examinations are not eligible.
❓ Is there negative marking in the Preliminary Exam?
Yes. One-third (1/3rd) of marks assigned to a question are deducted for each wrong answer in the Preliminary Examination. Unattempted questions carry no penalty. Paper II (CSAT) is qualifying in nature (minimum 33%), and merit for Prelims is determined solely on Paper I marks.
❓ Can candidates from other states apply?
Yes. All Indian citizens meeting the educational and age criteria can apply. However, reservation benefits (SC/ST/OBC/EWS), age relaxations, and preferential consideration are available only to permanent residents (domicile) of Uttar Pradesh. Candidates from other states must compete under the unreserved category without any relaxation.
❓ What is OTR and how do I get it?
OTR (One Time Registration) is a mandatory pre-registration for all UPPSC examinations. Visit otr.pariksha.nic.in, register with your personal details to get a unique OTR number. This number is used for all UPPSC applications. Complete OTR at least 72 hours before the application deadline to avoid issues.
❓ What is the major change in UPPSC PCS Mains 2026?
The optional subject has been permanently removed from the UPPSC PCS Mains Examination starting 2026. All candidates must now appear for 8 compulsory papers: Hindi, Essay, and General Studies I–IV, plus Ethics and Aptitude. This change levels the playing field and eliminates the advantage of optional subject selection.
